Project Runway

Just a quick post --

I never caught onto "Project Runway" during the first two seasons. But largely based on the opinion of Shawn (and her blog, "Getting to Maybe", see links) I decided to watch the first two episodes of Season 3 tonight. Gotta say, I was impressed, but I really loved Malan and I'm sad to see him go. I'm sure Angela stayed because she is bound to cause trouble, and the producers would never let that stop. Kayne's dress was by far the most glamorous and I adored it. Wish I could buy it to wear to my counsin's wedding -- the Midwest needs a little sparkle!

My Sense of Humor; subtitled: A Helpful Reference For Future Posts

the Wit

(66% dark, 38% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN COMPLEX DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.

A Midsummer's Night Dream - Peacock Park, Coconut Grove, 7/15/06

An intrepid band of adventurers set out last night to discover an altogether novel phenomenon...culture in Miami.

A new organization called Shakespeare Miami, in conjunction with the city, produced "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in Peacock Park. We brought sangria and fried chicken and settled on bales of hay placed strategically in the audience area. As the sun set we commented on our low expectations for community theater. For the second time in a weekend, I will admit to being surprised.

I have never been an admirer of this particular play. In other renditions, the lines have been spoken too quickly and mechanically to allow Shakespeare's humor to shine through. However, this version was generally well-acted and the actors spoke their lines clearly and slowly enough to make them understandable.

As no program was available, I cannot give credit to the various actors for their solid performances. Highlights included the actors playing Nick Bottom, Puck and Helena. However, I certainly look forward to Shakespeare Miami's next English language offering (their next performance is "Romeo and Juliet" translated in Spanish).
